Mechanical Engineer II
Engineer II role at CTG includes product design and manufacture, review and approve engineering designs, run thermal and mechanical simulations, and report writing. Engineer II is expected to be self-directed in work with oversight by senior engineers, asking questions appropriately but demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills. We are looking for a team player with attention to details.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
CTG Employee:
- Contribute to proposals, presentations, reports and technical guides as directed
- Document results routinely for internal records and report deliverables
- Work collaboratively on projects
- Comply with QMS processes and procedures
- Comply with all CTG SOPs
- Work with customers and vendors as related to job
Engineer II:
- Develop and test prototypes of devices
- Manage the sales production schedule. Determine what is done in house or sent out for quotes.
- Proficient in SolidWorks to design parts and assemblies and create drawings
- Proficient in GD&T
- Experienced in PDM for file management and ECO for change management
- Analyze problems using thermal and mechanical simulations
- Design or redesign products using analysis and SolidWorks
- Manufacture prototypes and products as directed
- Analyze the test results and modify the design as needed
- Review prototype or product designs and engineering drawings, verifying appropriate mechanical design
- Work with the QMS Lead on writing and reviewing SOPs for engineering design, manufacturing, assembly and other engineering processes.
- Perform necessary maintenance and engineering tasks
- Help manufacturing with creating CAMs, tool selection and ordering, process improvements etc.
- Participate in internal or contract research to support new designs and general R&D
- Design for manufacturability and assembly
- Familiarize with RF measurements of samples using any of CTG's lab measurement systems
- Perform quality assurance of new hardware and assemblies
- Write and edit reports for projects
- Lead or support the effort to manufacture a measurement system for a customer
- Work cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Sales, Lab, and Software team
- Familiarity with FMEA, 8D, AS9100, Composites manufacturing is a plus.
Qualifications
- BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics
- 3-5 years hands-on engineering experience
- Experience in 3D engineering design software is a must, Proficiency in SolidWorks is highly desirable
- RF knowledge, Electrical Engineering, or Physics background is plus
- Comfortable managing the safe use of power tools for production
- Experience in gathering machine shop quotes for outsourced parts
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
- Proficient with navigating databases, utilizing shared folders, and arranging virtual meetings
- Specialty software proficiency: SolidWorks, PDM, Thermal and Mechanical Simulation, Jira, Confluence
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Able to reason at a high level: Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Able to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Work in a business office space that includes a lab and production environment
